Hibiscus syriacus, Syrian Rose

Hibiscus syriacus,
Syrian Rose
This is one Hibiscus which can be grown over a range of climates as it is deciduous, frost hardy and tolerant of dry or tough conditions. It is flowering and at its best now with many different cultivars available in a range of colours from purple to blue ,pink and white. The double flowering forms resemble cake decorations and are beautifully crafted with layers of petals. It can be trained to grow as a standard and reach about 3 metres in height . Hard winter pruning is recommended so that an abundance of flowers can be produced the following season. Like all Hibiscus, the leaves are prone to insect attack so be prepared for the slightly chewed look if you don't care for spraying
2017 update: I have a few available including a nice murky purple one , but I mainly grow the Hibiscus rosa-sinensis varieties,
