Aeonium arboreum

Aeonium arboreum 'Scwarzkopf'

Aeonium arboreum succulent from Morocco showing a variegated form and yellow flower.

This tall branching succulent sometimes gets the common name of velvet pinwheel and the most popular form is the near black foliaged 'Schwarzkopf'. It is a very hardy plant but much loved by caterpillars and snails which can spoil the rosette in just a few bites. Mealybug also are able to hide beneath the tightly packed leaves ,distorting the crown of leaves .I use a Neem oil based spray to treat them. Cuttings strike readily and the whole plant needs to be "deconstructed" after a few seasons by cutting off all healthy branches and replanting them in position.
2017 update: Aeonium grow best during the cooler months which is when I have plants available for sale.
