Anemone form Dahlia

Dahlia Flowers in Anemone Form

Talking to a fanatical Dahlia grower last weekend, he excitedly told me that he was pleased to be to be exhibiting some flowers in the anemone centred form which had been bred in Adelaide. I have heard of this type of flower before as it applies to Camellias and Chrysanthemums as well. The standard of quality for perfect flowers of this type is that the central 'cushion' should be the predominating feature. This should be fresh, deep, even in size and of bright colour. The outer petals (ray florets) may consist of from one to four rows and should be flat and fresh.

It was good fun as a child to look into sea rock pools at low tide. The tentacles of the sea Anemones would close around your finger as you brushed against them.

  1. The dahlias are fantastic. They have a remarkable resemblance to the sea anemone- even in colour.
